Flu Mist Not Available

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a yearly vaccine for anyone six months and older as the first and most important step in protecting not only you, but also your loved ones against flu viruses.

The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) announced that the live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV), best known as nasal spray, or by trade name Flu Mist, will not be available to anyone in the United States this year. The CDC's ACIP voted to recommend it not be used after data showed poor or relatively low effectiveness of the nasal spray from 2013 through 2016 flu seasons.

The flu vaccine still remains the single best protection against the flue. Stop by the Riley County Health Department to receive your annual flue shot!

There are no appointments needed for vaccinations. Just stop by during clinic hours.

Please visit the CDC for more information.
