Real estate taxes are based on the valuation of your property. There are two ways you may protest your property valuation which in turn may have an affect on your real estate taxes.
- When you receive your valuation notice from the Appraisers Office you have 30 days to protest the valuation of the property.
- If you do not protest the valuation at the time you receive your valuation notice you may complete a Payment Under Protest Form when you pay your taxes. Only paid taxes are eligible for protest.
You have until December 20th
to complete a payment under protest form. If you do not submit the form with your first half tax payment by this date you will be required to pay the taxes in full in order to protest.
If your taxes are paid by a mortgage company you have until January 31st
to submit your payment under protest form.
