Social Media Moderation Policy

Riley County utilizes social media in an effort to keep citizens informed and educated regarding services it provides, current events and emergency notifications when applicable.

We believe social media helps improve the quality of life for our citizens by creating a direct method of communication with various Riley County departments. In order to create a social environment that is welcoming to all citizens, all posts or comments containing offensive or perceived to be offensive language will be removed at the discretion of the Riley County Public Information Officer on behalf of the Board of Riley County Commissioners.

Some social media platforms utilize profanity filters that automatically block posts which use words and phrases viewed as offensive by members of the community. Riley County has no responsibility for such automatic blocks of posts. Riley County reserves the right, without notice, to hide, delete, mute, block, ban or unfollow any persons or posts containing: objectively false information, profanity, sexual content, threatening messages, advertisements, defamatory words, abusive remarks, harassment, or anything that could violate the legal rights of others and anything that is promoting illegal activity. Our site is not monitored 24/7. To report posts to our team, please send us an email at pio@rileycountyks.gov We will respond to it as quickly as possible. Due to staffing, not all direct messages, page tags, or questions can be answered; however, we will make an effort to respond to as many as possible.

We encourage our community to engage in meaningful, respectful conversations with fellow citizens on our site. Posting on our social media sites (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Nextdoor, Snapchat and LinkedIn) constitutes acceptance and understanding of the above terms.
